Worship Encouragers

We had our usual rehearsal tonight with the worship team at church. I love these nights because it's time we get to spend discussing our worship journeys, what God has been talking to us about and we also get to praise and worship our God together. Rehearsals are not just about practicing the songs, it's about practicing being in His presence. It's about getting filled and ready, but it's not just on our Wednesday night rehearsals that we expect this to happen. We should be constantly practicing being in His presence, he is always there ready to fill us, it's not like He only appears when we are rehearsing.

This blog entry has already taken a turn, I was going to say something different, but God is now leading me down a different path for tonight, so hopefully I'll be able to make some sense of it all.

In discussion tonight, the thought was discussed that some people don't know how to get into His presence, and we discussed how we can help them, as worship leaders, but we had no answers. How can we as a team or as individuals bring God's presence to others? The truth is, WE can't. Only God can bring His presence, and the truth of the situation is.... God is always present. The Bible says "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20). And I know every Sunday there is definitely more than two or three people at church so He IS there. Why is it some people do not feel like they are in His presence then?

I don't know if it's something that we as worship leaders can do. We can do all we can but in the end, if a person's heart is not open to God, we cannot open it for them. That is something that is between them and God.

As worship leaders, I think it is our job to encourage people to open themselves up to Him, so that God can do the work He wants to do. We cannot worship for others, we cannot take God and place Him in front of them, we cannot provide His presence without them being able to accept it.

Thankful for: My friend who I trust completely.

I have a friend that I spent some time with today, and I'm just extremely thankful for her. I have been able to share some personal things with her, and I trust her completely with them. I know that she will continue to look out for me, and will tell me if I'm slipping up or if I'm going backwards towards these things that I have shared with her. I obviously have also shared them with God, but it's important I think to also share with some people around you so that you are accountable to someone.

  1. Here is a thought: Have you ever heard of 'Worship Encouragers' who would be a part of your worship team? Like on your worship team you might have musicians, worship leaders, projectionists/sound people, dancers, prophetic people....and maybe Worship Encouragers? Like someone who would be a part of the team or congregation who might stand with your worship team and AMEN, speak into the worship with YESSSSes!, or verbally/physically ENCOURAGE the movings of God in the Worship service. Have you ever heard/seen anything like that? Is there a place in the church for this? Is this too far out/out of line? What do you think?
