This is something I've been thinking about for a while but I feel like tonight is a good night to write about it. What is it that makes us a failure? A lot of the time people will say failure is when you lose, when something doesn't work, when things go wrong. Well... I think those are all interesting answers, but I don't agree. They could be right if that's the end and you don't keep trying, but as long as you keep trying, I don't see it as failure. It only becomes failure when you give up.
So tonight I watched the State of Origin rugby game. For those who don't know what this is, it's a Rugby game between New South Wales and Queensland. There are 3 games, the winner is the one that wins the most of those games. I don't understand rugby at all, but I enjoy the social time with others as we watch the game. Anyways, New South Wales have now lost the series 7 years in a row, does that make them a failure? NO! If they were to say now, "that's it, we don't want to do this anymore, we're going to stop trying" and there were no more games. Then yes, I would say then that they have failed, that they have let something defeat them, but when the time comes next year, I know that they are going to come out full force ready to give it another go! They haven't failed yet!
I see this the same with a lot of things in life. We often say that we failed because we couldn't do something first go. Well the truth is, a lot of things in life take time and practice. Nobody ever gets anywhere by just doing things once. We have to keep trying. If I looked at failure being the first time anything goes wrong in my Christian walk, well then, I would be one terribly shocking Christian and a huge failure. We make mistakes, it doesn't make us failures. I know that if something goes wrong, I can try again, and I can keep trying knowing that eventually I will get it right.
"For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again" (Proverbs 24:16a)
We are going to fail, we are going to fall, but we need to understand that we can rise again, and try again!
Thankful for: The earth
When I say the earth, I guess what I'm talking about is nature. I love the things that God has placed in the world. Just going outside and hearing the birds in the trees, and enjoying the colours of the trees and the flowers. There's so much beauty in these things that I often don't see, but it's there everyday for us and I am thankful that we have such a beautiful place to live before we make our way to heaven.
